Job Title: Civil Engineering Intern

Location: San Luis Obispo

Duration: 3 month +

Reports To: Principal Civil Engineer

Hours: Negotiable

Pay Range: $20-$24 / hour

 

Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineering Intern to join our team. This internship will provide hands-on experience in the field of civil engineering, assisting with various design, analysis, and project management tasks. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented individual with an interest in residential construction, interdisciplinary training, understanding permitting and regulatory requirements on small scale residential developments, and a desire to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the design and analysis of residential engineering projects, including grading, drainage, stormwater control, septic, and structural elements.

• Help prepare and review project documentation, including technical reports, drawings, and specifications.

• Participate in field visits to construction sites to monitor progress and ensure compliance with design specifications.

• Perform site assessments, including data collection and analysis, to support project development.

• Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to develop and refine project plans.

• Utilize engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit) to assist in the design and drafting of project components.

• Conduct research on building codes, regulations, and materials to support project development.

• Attend meetings with clients, contractors, and team members as required.

• Opportunities for inter-disciplinary training including land surveys and structural engineering.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

• Passion for civil engineering.

• Familiarity with civil engineering software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, etc.) is a plus.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment and manage multiple tasks.

• Previous internship or project experience is a plus but not required.
